µFlow Cell has obtained an ERC Proof of Concept Grant of 150.000 euro to develop a prototype for a new separation device. The prototype builds further on the ground breaking research performed in the ERC Starting Grant project EVODIS of Prof. Wim De Malsche. The novel device makes use of electrically induced lateral flows to enhance separation performance in miniature systems, which can be used in analytical labs, but also for patients in a point-of-care setting. The complex separation of haemoglobin in its genetic variants for better diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes is one of the target applications. The grant is a recognition of the quality and relevance of the research carried out by the team, and will allow to build the bridge to industrial application.
